How to Grind Chicken Without a Meat Grinder

How to Grind Chicken Without a Meat Grinder | Real Food RN

So, one night I was CRAVING some good old P.F. Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps. I was so happy to find some chicken in the back of my freezer. Except, it was not ground chicken. What’s a girl to do? Grind it up myself, I guess. I was worried that I might turn it into chicken paste though. So, after some online searching and tutorials, I found a method that works. I taught myself how to grind chicken without a meat grinder!

Don't have a meat grinder? No problem! After some online searching and tutorials, I found a method that works and it won't turn the meat into a paste.

Instructions

  • Using a sharp knife, cut the chicken into chunks.
  • Place on a tinfoil lined baking sheet.
  • Place the entire sheet into the freezer for about 20-30 minutes. You want the chicken firm, but not frozen through.
  • Put the chunks into a food processor or blender, in batches of about 10 at a time, and pulse them until chopped.
  • Put the ground chicken into a large bowl and continue to process the other chunks until it is all chopped.
  • Voila! You have ground your own meat without a meat grinder!

  2. I inquired with the meat market man once and he instructed that you grind your beef twice to get the consistence of the ground meat in the store. I have down this and it works. Time consuming, but works and handles beautifully

    1. Thanks for the tip Leo! I will have to give that a try next time we are making something with ground beef.

  3. Hello! I’m down to try your method to make some ground chicken. I’m taking a Foods class this year, but I’m doing online school. One of the things we’re making next week is a meatloaf, but I don’t have any ground meat at hand. I found some chicken in the freezer and I was wondering if you think this will work to make a really nice chicken meatloaf!
