About Me
Hi, my name is Kate.
I am a Nurse, a Mom, and an enthusiastic real foodie — turned blogger!
I love food. Real food. We eat all of the things that nursing school taught me were bad for you: butter, eggs, bacon, and raw milk.
But, my blog is not only about food. I like to think of Real Food as a metaphor for health, it’s all encompassing. Real Food is what feeds you: body, mind and soul. Of course, the first step on your journey to health should start with what you put into your body, but it also includes what you put onto your body, how you move your body, and the conversation that goes on in your head.
We need to be ever vigilant of the environment that we live in and the toxins that are in everything from makeup to our household cleaners. I have ditched the toxins, gotten them out of our house and off of our bodies. You know what? It’s not that hard to do. I have recipes for practically everything, and what I don’t have recipes for, I have found great resources.
I want to show you how to take your health into your own hands and live the best life possible. I want to teach you how to make your own personal care and cleaning products so you can lift the toxic burden and begin to feel better. Look better. Sleep better. Live better.
I am a Nurse, a Mom, and a Real Food loving blogger. Just trying to save the world.
The Real Food RN Story
Check out this post if you would like to read “The True Story About My Nursing Career.”
And now for a bit about my background….
I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as an RN for 15 years. I worked in a major metropolitan hospital where I circulated to all areas of the hospital, in the “Critical Care Float Pool”. An interest in health and healing is what led me too pursue my career in the medical field. Unfortunately, I had not seen as much healing as I had hoped for. I struggled with pushing pills instead of preventing disease. It was all symptomatic management.
Having children of my own inspired me to take a particular interest in the health of women and their babies. Limited nutritional information was provided to me when I became pregnant with my first child. My research led me to the Traditional/Real Food (think Weston A. Price) way of eating. This nutritionally dense diet has been nourishing my family for years now and we feel great!
I went back to school for Holistic Nutrition in 2007 at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where I learned to counsel people on how to live a better life through good nutrition. This is what I truly love to do! Helping people to support their health through diet and lifestyle changes is the most rewarding experience I can think of! As you can see, I even got to be interviewed on stage at my nutrition school and my interviews are now part of the distance learning courses! That was a lot of fun!
