Kid Recipe Favorite: Real Fruit Snacks

Battling sugary snacks is an ongoing challenge with the constant exposure to candy advertisements and displays everywhere we go! My daughter finally agrees that “candy makes me sick.” Winning!

So, that being said, I also don’t want to be the Food-Nazi-Mom that doesn’t let my kids have anything sweet. I decided to make some “candy” for them that has no artificial additives and is full of vitamins and minerals. Real fruit snacks! Have fun with this recipe and chose fruit with a unique shape or color!

Real Fruit Snacks

Make your own "candy" fruit snacks at home without any artificial additives, plus, they're full of vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients

  • 6 kiwi fruit
  • 2 star fruit
  • You can really use just about any fruit that you want

Instructions

    1. Slice the star fruit into 1/4 inch slices (remove the seeds).
    2. Peel and slice the kiwi into 1/4 inch slices.
    3. Dehydrate in a dehydrator on the fruit setting until leathery in a dehydrator, or in a low-heat setting in the oven. I dried mine in my dehydrator at 135* for about 5 hours. The lower heat you use, the more nutrients that remain intact.

    1. I randomly find it at our local grocery store. I almost always check to see if it’s there because my daughter LOVES it. Not sure when the “season” it though.
