What is Azure Standard? | Real Food RN

Sourcing food is one of the biggest struggles for our family. It seems like there are about 15 stores we need to shop from to get all of the best quality stuff and not pay a fortune. Produce was a big hurdle too! Then a good blogger friend of mine posted a pic of a huge order of veggies that she had just gotten. All organic, at a very low price, delivered! I immediately inquired. She told me it was from Azure Standard, I signed up that night. We have never looked back! We have saved so much money by shopping with Azure monthly! Scroll down for a video showing what we get in our monthly order!

If you’re committed to clean, ethical, organic eating like I am, you need to know about Azure Standard! You’ve probably seen the media stories about microplastics invading the food chain, and about the environmental degradation caused by industrial farming practices. If you’re looking for alternatives to intensively farmed, polluting food production, I’d like to introduce you to an amazing solution!

Who is Azure Standard?

Azure Standard is a family-owned company based in Oregon. Initially, a small organic farm, the business has grown to include fresh produce, canned and deli items, health, and household products, as well as plants and seeds.

For nearly fifty years the Seltzer family has been committed to doing things differently. Since the early 1970s, the family farm in Oregon has been dedicated to a way of farming that is not dependent on industrial chemicals to increase the fertility of the land. When the Seltzer family noticed the toll that industrial fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides were having on their soil, they went cold turkey. By sticking to organic principles and refusing to compromise by using industrial chemicals, the family noticed that their own health improved and the demand for their organic produce increased. The demand grew so much in fact that what the family farm couldn’t supply, they started sourcing from other like-minded companies.

By the late 1980s, the family farm had become Azure Standard – a company committed to providing the best organic, natural food and products to its customers.

Azure Standard is a virtual online organic supermarket. The company stocks hundreds of products ranging from fresh produce to household products, health and beauty items and nutritional supplements. They even sell garden items, seedlings, seeds, (including heritage varieties) and animal food.

Why Choose Organic Products?

If I haven’t yet convinced you to buy organic, here are some things for you to consider. You may have noticed more organic options turning up in the supermarket aisles and wondered if they’re really so different from regular products. Or is it just a sales pitch?

There is increasing evidence that large-scale, factory farming is having a terrible impact on people’s health and on the environment. A cocktail of herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, and other chemicals have increased the toxic load on our bodies, our soils, and our waterways. And that’s before you even start thinking about the effect of GMO crops and genetically manipulated animals.

Organic, eco-friendly products are not a sales gimmick but a real alternative to the mass-produced food that crowds supermarket shelves. It’s easy to feel helpless in the face of all the bad news about contaminated food chains, increasing pollution, and leaching microplastics in everything from water bottles to toothpaste. And what about the food miles of the items in your shopping cart? How can you know how the beef in your burger was raised? Or if pesticides were used in the wheat for your burger bun? What scientific tinkering altered the genes in that tomato?

Knowing more about your food is even more important if you or one of your family members suffers from food allergies, gluten or lactose intolerance, or conditions like Celiac or Crohn’s disease.

But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to feel helpless and overwhelmed! There are companies out there trying to fight back and show that industrialized farming is not the best or only way.

People are increasingly turning to family-owned companies like Azure Standard who are committed to working with nature, not trying to control or even destroy it. Azure Standard’s wide network of small farms and businesses represent the opposite to huge industrial factory farms where the bottom line is profit. Azure Standard is proving that you can make a stand against GMO factory farming, and produce ethical, nutritious products, support family farms and businesses, and still run a viable business.

Why Azure Standard?

The name ‘Azure Standard’ reflects the values of what the Stelzer family is trying to achieve.

The word Azure stands for law, justice, and honesty. The company wants to set an honest standard for the organic food market. They want this not only to measure the quality of their own food production but to raise the standard of the entire industry and inspire consumers to demand more transparency in food production.

Instead of fighting to control nature, the Stelzer family and the Azure Standard company are dedicated to the principles of organic production, of cooperating with nature, of nurturing the environment, the soil, and the plants and animals they raise.

Azure Standard is also committed to the education of consumers and producers alike. As well as selling products, Azure Standard’s website has recipes, a podcast, and articles on healthy living, harvesting, and seasonal produce.

How to Buy through Azure Standard

It’s easy to buy your groceries through Azure Standard. You simply create a store account, locate your nearest Drop delivery point on the Azure Standard map, and start shopping. There are more than 3000 Drops across the mainland United States, and Azure Standard also delivers through barge lines to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific.

Each Azure Standard Drop point has an assigned coordinator to deal with information and delivery times and details.  There is no minimum on orders.

But isn’t eating organic expensive?

It’s true that organic products can often be more expensive than regular ones, and you might think that eco-friendly eating is a nice luxury that you can’t afford right now. But Azure Standard is committed to making organic, environmentally conscious products available for everyone. The company operates on a cost-plus basis and if costs go down, so do their prices.  And the price of the sale item in your website cart at the time of purchase won’t change even if the delivery is scheduled for a later date.  Azure Standard also has generous volume discounts, so you can save even more by buying in bulk.
