How to Use Grapefruit Seed Extract to Wash Vegetables

Grapefruit is dynamic and known for its unique taste and health benefits. It is attributed to helping promote weight loss, fighting cellulite, and boosting immunity. Eating the flesh of grapefruit can help fight insulin resistance and may reduce the risk of kidney stones. What you may not know is the seeds of the grapefruit are just as beneficial as the flesh.
Grapefruit seed extract is derived from the seeds, membranes, and pulp of the grapefruit. Its claim to fame is having powerful antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties available in liquid, capsule, and tablet forms. Scientist Jacob Harish discovered the protective properties of grapefruit seed extract for meats, vegetables, and other foods from bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
We already know the value of vegetables in our diet. Eating a diet rich in vegetables helps us stay healthy and energized. Whole foods grown on farms require fertilization, pest prevention, and harvesting. Each of these processes can potentially expose our foods to contamination that can lead to illness. That’s why it’s essential to clean your vegetables thoroughly before preparing them for your meals.
During this time of COVID-19, it’s even more important to wash fruits and vegetables with an antibacterial, antiviral wash! Imagine all of the people who have handled your fruits and veggies before they end up on your table. Anyone of them could inadvertently spread germs from their hands onto your produce. So, if you thought it was unnecessary to wash your locally grown, organic veg, think again! Yuck!
But never fear! There is an easy way to remove pesticide and fertilizer residue, as well as germs that could cause illness, so that eating your 5 a day is truly healthy!
Farmers have used grapefruit seed extract for years to help their animals, and their crops stay healthy. In the same way, you can help keep your produce safer by using grapefruit seed extract to properly wash it. Creating a simple vegetable cleaner with grapefruit seed extract can help you reduce the chances of ingesting
- E. Coli
- Salmonella
- Campylobacter
Each of these can cause illness and significant damage to our digestive system. It’s important to prevent the transfer of viruses and bacteria whenever possible, and washing your veggies in grapefruit seed extract can help.
Grapefruit seed extract is a broad-spectrum, non-toxic, anti-microbial product. That’s a fancy way of saying it kills or slows down the spread of microorganisms that can cause significant illness. It’s also superior to synthetic preservatives or germ-killers like chlorine bleach and isopropyl alcohol.
DIY Grapefruit Seed Extract Vegetable Wash
Making a simple veggie wash with grapefruit seed extract is easy. Here’s a couple of recipes you can try at home:
- Mix 20 drops grapefruit seed extract with 1 TBSP baking soda, 1 cup water, and 1 cup white vinegar. Add to a spray bottle and generously spray on vegetables. Rinse in cold water after 2-3 minutes.
- Mix 20 drops grapefruit seed extract and 4 cups water in a spray bottle. Shake vigorously and spray on produce and rinse in cold water after 2-3 minutes.
While whipping up a DIY vegetable wash is a simple, cost-effective way to keep your family safe, not all grapefruit seed extract is the same. Many of the essential oils and extracts on the market are produced by mega-companies that use synthetic ingredients. Why would they do this? The answer is simple—they can charge much less for them than the quality, natural, and effective all-natural extracts and oils. They make more money by selling inferior (toxic!) products to the masses who don’t understand what they are buying!
Don’t be fooled—just because it smells citrusy doesn’t mean it’s effective! Read the labels before you buy your grapefruit seed extract. Watch out for synthetic chemical additives like methylparaben, benzethonium chloride, or triclosan. The best grapefruit seed extract products have two ingredients—grapefruit seed extract and vegetable glycerin.
Grapefruit Isn’t for Everyone
While grapefruit is a natural food, not everyone should consume it. Some medications can interact with the properties of grapefruit. If you are on a special diet or take medication, connect with your physician, and make sure there are no problems with regularly washing your produce withgrapefruit seed extract.
It’s great to know there’s an effective way to protect your produce and your family from harmful viruses, bacteria, and fungus. No one wants to think about all the contaminants that co-mingle with our healthy foods, but it’s important to consider what our food goes through on the way to our table. From fertilization, pest control, all the hands that touch our produce on its way to market, that’s a lot of room for contamination. Fortunately, there’s an easy, non-toxic way to prevent illness by using grapefruit seed extract and enjoy non-toxic foods that are great for your family.
