In October 2014, we brought our third bundle of joy into the world! When I found out that I was expecting, I was so excited but had to find out the perfect way to break the news…
Well, when I found out I was pregnant the first two times, it just kind of fell out of my mouth when I saw my husband. Excitement? Yes! A lasting memory of the creative and amazing way that I broke the news? No.
So, with round three, I knew this time I had to do it right. Google and Pinterest had lots of good ideas for pregnancy announcements, but none of them really stood out to me. That is until I came across the idea for the older siblings being promoted….brilliant! My husband works in the corporate world and a letter of promotion is speaking his language. The wheels in my head began to turn, I had to format this thing just right!
But first, I needed to prime him a bit. Get him nostalgic about when our kiddos were babies and show him just how fast time is going. What better to do this than a video of his little girl growing up. Yep, that will do the trick! I showed him this a day before I made the big announcement. Watch below….
Okay, so now he is getting back into the mindset of when our kids were babies. Primed and ready!
Enter the letter of promotion, which was presented to him in an official envelop of course. My son proudly handed his Daddy the letter of promotion to “Big Brother”. I actually kept my daughter in the dark about the whole thing because girls talk and she was bound to let it out before I was ready. Sneaky, sneaky!
Here is the official letter…
(ps, I noticed the typo after it had been printed and deleted…oops!)
Surprise! He took about 127 minutes to read the whole letter, without a word. But the look on his face was priceless. One of the best parts is that we mailed this letter to the Grandparents too, it works for everyone! Now it lives in the baby book where we can go back and read it any time. Speaking the corporate language my husband speaks in his day-to-day made it easier to get my point across. It was either that or a pregnancy test in a pretty box. I’m glad I chose the letter.
How did you tell your husband/partner and family that you were pregnant? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
