Healthy Homemade Ranch Dressing
When I was in high school, my friends and I used to go to Perkins restaurant whenever we had the time and money. Every time I went, I would get the same thing. Wait for it…..an empty bread bowl, french fries, and a bucket of ranch. Yikes! I loved it! I had the metabolism of a mouse and youth on my side, so it never gave me any ill effects.
Now I don’t eat gluten, MSG, or processed oils. So that meal is entirely out of the question, and good riddance! I make my own homemade ranch dressing now and not only is it very tasty and a great dip for anything and everything, but it is also a MUCH healthier version!

Homemade Ranch Dressing
Make your own healthy, homemade ranch dressing in just a few minutes. Homemade always tastes better than store-bought!
Ingredients
- Herb Mix:
- 1/4 cup dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon dried dill
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- Mayo:
- 2 Tbsp ranch mix, or more if you like a strong ranch flavor
- 1 cup homemade mayo (or store-bought mayo)
- 1/2 cup organic buttermilk
Instructions
1. Make the mix and store it in a glass jar to use as needed (will last indefinitely in your cabinet).
2. Combine the mayo, buttermilk and 2 Tbsp of the mix in a glass jar, shake well to combine.
3. Use one of these cool gadgets to mix your dressing really well - immersion blender.
4. Store in the fridge, and it will last up to 2 weeks.

Hi, my name is Kate.
I love food. Real food. We eat all of the things that nursing school taught me were bad for you: butter, eggs, bacon, and raw milk.
I am a Nurse, a Mom, and a Real Food loving blogger. Just trying to save the world.
Here is another version that is similar, but tastes so much like what I ate as a child. The fun thing is I use kefir in it and my husband has no clue he is getting probiotics!

I made this and it is very good! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback! 🙂
Where do you get your parsley from for this? Last time I tried to make a ranch mix it tasted like salty alfalfa. This recipe looks much better, I’ll have to try it. 🙂
I just get the parsley from the bulk section at my co-op. You can order it online too: https://amzn.to/19wxG1v
Kate, is there a substitute for organic buttermilk if we can’t find it? Thanks ~ love all your recipes and DIY ideas!
Thanks Kris! Well, the buttermilk really gives it a nice flavor. I suppose you could try using cream and maybe add in a bit of apple cider vinegar for the tart? I am not sure if that would work or not, you might just get curdled cream
Thanks, Kate ~ I will search for buttermilk! 🙂
Maybe because this is an older post, the link for “one of these cool gadgets” doesn’t work. Could you please let us know what “this cool gadget” is?
Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up about the link Carol! I fixed it 🙂
