Our family favorite toppings are homemade gravy and sweet butter sauce. You can also add them to soups.

Instructions

  • Peel and boil potatoes, allow them to cool.
  • Then mash them, grate them or rice them.
  • Add the eggs, flour and salt.
  • Mix well with your hands.
  • Form into dumplings with your hands.
  • Bring a medium pot of water to a boil.
  • Drop the dumplings into the water, one at a time (careful not to splash yourself with boiling water!).
  • Gently boil them for about 10 minutes.
  • You will know they are done when they are all floating in the water.

  • Using a slotted spoon, scoop the dumplings out of the water.
  • Put them into a serving bowl with a lid to keep them warm.
  • Serve with gravy or butter.
  • They can also be used as dumplings in soups.
  • I even put them into vacuum bags and freeze them for future batches of soup! The easiest way to do this is with a food vacuum sealer (see below).
