In our modern world we are often quick to run off to the doctors office for every sniffle and sneeze. In our home, if it is a mild and common ailment, we typically try some oily remedies first. Many coughs and pains can clear right up with a simple oil massage or putting some oils in the diffuser. Saves us a trip to the doctor, and also saves a lot of money on unnecessary medical bills! Of course the Nurse in me is always interested in essential oils and common ailments! I am proud to say that my children have never even been on antibiotics, not even once!

Oils that I use for Common Ailments:

  • Sore Throat: gargle with thieves oil and water, make a throat spray using thieves and water. Add two drops lemon and 2 drops thieves to some warm tea and drink to soothe a sore throat
  • Fever: peppermint on the bottoms of feet. 1 drop every half hour until fever breaks
  • Congestion: lemon oil rubbed along the spine. Thieves, Raven, RC in the diffuser or a steam inhalation. You can also apply these oils directly to the chest
  • Sinus Infection: use RC applied to the sinus areas for a sinus headache. 1-2 drops Peppermint, Thieves and RC on the bottoms of your feet. Peppermint, Thieves and RC in a steam inhalation
  • Ear Ache: run Lemon, Lavender, Melrose or Purification oil on the outside of the ear and down the side of the neck. Repeat this every 15 minutes until the pain reduces, then apply oils hourly. Never put oils directly into the ear.
  • Stomach Ache: rub a drop of peppermint on the belly in a clockwise motion, cover with a warm wet washcloth to drive the oil in. Also try DiGize, one drop under the tongue or massages on the belly
  • Cough: mix Lavender, Peppermint or Lemon oil with a carrier oil and massage onto chest. Diffuse RC.
  • Headache: use RC applied to the sinus areas for a sinus headache, apply Deep Relief to the area of pain for cluster headaches, apply Valor to the area of pain for tension headaches, M-grain for migraines. Peppermint to the temples and back of neck also works for most headaches
